This weekend we decided to try a different farmer’s market. The Hillsdale Farmers Market is open on Sundays year round (every other week in the winter). The last time we were there was in late February when food for sale included winter vegetables like onions and potatoes, as well as cheese, smoked fish, and bread. Now, in mid summer, we found many of the same produce and other products we had seen at other markets, including bread from Fressen Artisan Bakery,
and berries,
berries,
and even more berries.
Farmers also had peppers,
tomatoes,
and fennel on display.
Once we got home I started to think about dinner. In the end, I used some beets from last week’s market visit, roasted and tossed with orange juice,
to dress up a salad of local radicchio from this week’s trip.
Then I roasted baby cauliflower with fresh onions and garlic,
and tossed sauteed kale and fresh tomatoes with pasta
for a simple and satisfying end to a summer Sunday.
