I’ve been thinking about a post about what, other than food, makes a good restaurant experience great. But that’s not what this post is about.
I’ve also been thinking about a post about the sudden, and in my opinion, untimely, demise of Gourmet magazine (we got our final issue this week — well, actually, we got our final two issues this week because somehow, in a fit of over-eagerness, we ended up with two subscriptions for the past six months and never canceled the second one because it was about to expire anyway).
But that’s not what this post is about either. In fact, it’s not really a post about anything in particular.
Let’s just call it a chance to post a few recent photos taken around the house on a rainy fall Sunday.
Now I feel better.
Love the photos. They’re serene on this rainy East Coast day. And delighted you mentioned Gourmet! In circulation for 68 years! How does it fall but other supremely silly magazines continue and flourish and mate and spawn? Do you know Sunset magazine? My mom started subscribing when we lived in the Bay Area and still does, years later and living in Colorado.
You need to be printing Knitting a Life and knitting together a book, Liza. I love your photos. I am inspired every time I read/see your blog to cook better food and take better photos!
Thanks Nancy and Amy! Nancy — my sister in law keeps telling me to subscribe to Sunset. Maybe now I will. Amy — you are too nice — I love the photos on your blog, too!
Two, yes TWO of my favorite magazines have been cancelled in the last 6 months. It just killed me. Why, why, why? These two magazines were arty and wonderful and now I have to read more homogenized stuff which is just NOT FAIR.
What was the other one?
Did you hear the interview with Ruth Reichl on Fresh Air? So sad. They didn’t even give her enough time to do a final issue! Totally sucks.
Sniff.
Beautiful photos as always on your blog.
